Teak Benches - Teak Tables - Teak Chairs : A Quality Outdoor Furnishing
Furnishing an outdoor living space, whether it is your own garden or backyard or a public park, can prove to be quite a challenge even for the savviest home decorator. This is because it is quite difficult to find furniture pieces that complement each other, unless you are purchasing them all at once. Besides, you cannot ignore all the natural elements in any outdoor living situation, which just makes the search even more difficult. There is some respite, however, in the form of teak benches. So read on to find out why teak benches are right for you.
What is Teak Wood?
Teak belongs to the mint family and is a tropical hardwood tree, native to south and Southeast Asia (mainly India, Bangladesh, Burma and Thailand). They are large trees, growing to as much as 120 feet in height. Teak has superior grains and texture and its timber is yellowish brown in color. Besides being used for the manufacture of outdoor furniture, it is also used extensively in boat decks, for indoor flooring, cutting boards, for table/countertops and also as a veneer for indoor furnishings.
Why Teak Benches?
Teak benches are a great investment for a number of different qualities of teak wood:
• Durability: These are built to last for a long time and also withstand all of the elements that could very well ruin benches made from other materials. This feature can be attributed to the teak wood that they are crafted from, which happens to be one of the most renowned woods used for building outdoor furniture throughout the world. It is exceptionally dense and is not easily damaged. And on top of that, it has natural oils that make it very resistant to the elements. It doesn’t even require different oils and varnishing to enhance its resistance. It wouldn't rot or breakdown even when pelted with rain, sleet, snow, and the beating rays of the sun. After all, the absolute last thing you want is to find a lovely piece, only for it to become ruined after one or two seasons of braving the adverse weather in your area. So, banking on pieces made from teak wood is a solid investment.
• Resistance to Pests: Most outdoor furniture pieces require to be treated with some kind of insecticide or pesticide to ward off unwanted pests. Teak, however, has a natural resistance to these.
• Elegance: Teak benches are also a great buy because of their beauty, which is again because they are crafted out of teak wood. This type of wood has a spectacular appearance since it has a natural golden glow to it when new.
• Low maintenance: Over time the natural tone of the wood will fade to a striking gray color that will add a really distinguished look to your space. If you don't want your furnishing made from it to get that gray color, all you have to do is apply a layer of ‘teak protectant’ to it at the start of each season. Apart from that though, it will not require any other maintenance as such.
The good thing about teak benches is that they are an amazing find for anyone who wants to have elegant, durable furniture set up in their outdoor living space. One, or a few, would really work well in any outdoor setting. For example, you could put one on your patio for a great way to provide seating for party guests. A few other spots you could put teak benches, include: on a porch, on a dock overlooking a lake or in a Four Seasons Room.
