It seems that every day you read in the paper that homeowners are increasingly turning to growing their own fruits, herbs and vegetables. But what if you live in a condo, apartment or have a small yard?
The answer may be teak planter boxes. In a fairly tight space you can grow an amazing amount of produce and flowers. Teak is the perfect material for outdoor planters, too, given the fact that the wood is very resistant to rot and bugs, something greenery seems to regularly attract. Another bonus of these garden planters is depth. Some vegetables and even some herbs love to have deep roots. That’s why depth is an important thing in planters, so the roots can continue to acquire water and nutrients without becoming root bound.
Another use of these planters is as tree boxes. If you’re not into growing produce, you can still enjoy the natural beauty of greenery by adding a small tree to your planter. Again, the deep boxes do best, as they allow the tree to develop a healthy root structure.
If you have kitchen windows, add window boxes below them and grow your herbs there. When you’re cooking simply open a window, harvest the herbs you need and add them to your dish. Fresh grown herbs are so much better than store bought. You can also add flowers to your baskets. These not only brighten up the exterior of your home, but when you open the windows the fragrant scent of the flowers can brighten anyone’s day.
